Mayor’s Proclamation
WHEREAS, one out of every eight American women will develop breast cancer, over 210,000 new
cases of breast cancer are diagnosed every year in the USA, over 40,000 American women die every year from breast cancer, 1.4 million new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed worldwide every year, and over 460,000 women die worldwide every year from breast cancer, and
WHEREAS, we have a remarkably effective childhood vaccination program that protects us from over 16 different diseases, but we have no similar adult vaccine program to protect us against diseases we confront with age like breast cancer, and
WHEREAS, on behalf of all the people of Broadview Heights, I am pleased to offer hope to the
women of Northeast Ohio who would benefit directly from the development of a safe and effective immune defense against breast cancer and to the men of Northeast Ohio who would be spared from the loss of their Mothers, Wives, Daughters, Sisters,Aunts, Neighbors, and Friends to breast cancer upon development of a prophylactic breast cancer vaccine.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sam Alai, Mayor of the City of Broadview Heights, do hereby proclaim the
month of October, 2012 to be, BREAST CANCER VACCINE MONTH ….in the City of Broadview Heights.
